Chef Masaharu Morimoto – known to millions as the star of Iron Chef and Iron Chef America – has partnered with woman-owned baking kit company Global Grub to create a Morimoto Mochi Donut Kit.

The DIY kit puts a Japanese spin on doughnuts with the addicting chewy texture of mochi that includes easy-to-mix batter and glaze, unique cooking tools such as a doughnut mould and reusable piping bag, and instructions to bake.

The kit contains dry ingredients to make 18 baked (not fried) doughnuts in three flavours – chocolate, strawberry and matcha – but Chef Morimoto would like bakers to reuse the moulds and really get creative.

Can’t stop at just one

“I love that we could combine a Japanese and American favourite into one delicious treat,” said Chef Morimoto, who has garnered critical acclaim for his seamless integration of Western and Japanese ingredients, and a global restaurant count of 18.

“The Morimoto Mochi Donut Kit offers the perfect size doughnuts – just be careful, when they are ready to eat, it’s not easy to stop at just one!”

The renowned chef’s collaboration with Global Grub was brokered by Allied Global Marketing Partnerships, which has a long history of bringing brands together. The company’s global team of specialists – over 400-strong across 24 offices in North America, Europe and Australia – create campaigns that drive conversion for some of the world’s biggest brands and their diverse customers across film, TV, streaming, sports, gaming, live entertainment, cultural institutions, hospitality and consumer brands.

Anyone can cook

“I have been a fan of Chef Morimoto for a long time: He has inspired me as a culinary artist and a businesswoman,” said Global Grub founder Carley Sheehy.

“As a self-taught cook, I enjoyed watching and learning from Chef Morimoto on Iron Chef along my journey, so this partnership is extra special for me.”

When creating the San Francisco-based company (in 2012), Sheehy said she wanted to give cooks that little extra nudge they need to experiment in the kitchen and learn new techniques. Emphasis is on global specialities and includes kits like Churro Kit, Mochi Ice Cream Kit, Fortune Cookie Kit and Sushi Making Kit, among others.

Kits are stocked with non-perishable specialty ingredients, the required cooking tools, detailed instructions and a shopping list for a few basic items.

The Morimoto Mochi Donut Kit is available from Morimoto and Global Grub for an RRP of $42.99.
