Valentine's Day 2018 to pull in more US candy sales; see Hershey's lineup
“This year, fans of Hershey’s iconic brands will be able to find something brand new for each of the key Valentine’s occasions: Valentine’s exchange, serious gifting, casual gifting, and candy dish with our new items,” said Alex Corcoran, senior director of seasons at Hershey.
Some of the new products include Reese’s Pink Peanut Butter Hearts, Jolly Rancher Jelly Hearts Valentine’s Exchange and Hershey Valentine Gift Cubes filled with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Miniatures.
National Retail Federation (NRF) predicted that the total spending by US consumers during the Valentine’s this year is expected to reach $19.6bn, up from $18.2bn last year.
In the gifting category, US shoppers are expected spend $1.5bn in total on gift cards and gift certificates, and $894m on greeting cards this year, said NRF.
“More consumers plan on purchasing candy this year, with 55% (up from 50% last year) saying they will give gifts of candy for a total of $1.8bn,” it added.
